Bangui, September 29, 2025 – The construction of gender-sensitive infrastructure and the fight against violence against women are two of the major projects focussing on the country’s women under the leadership of Dr. Marthe Augustine Kirimat, Minister for the Promotion of Gender, Protection of Women, Family and Children of the Central African Republic.
As the Minister emphasized during her remarks at the Investment Round Table in Casablanca: “The development of the CAR cannot succeed if women are not empowered, strengthened, and protected.
Project 1: Gender-Sensitive Infrastructure & Women’s Economic Empowerment
The Gender-Sensitive Infrastructure and Women’s Economic Empowerment Project represents a $30 million investment aimed at transforming opportunities for women and girls in the CAR. Its key components include:
Building 10 holistic empowerment centers offering services, training, and support.
Rehabilitating 15 local and cross-border markets with gender-sensitive facilities such as lighting, childcare, water, and storage.
Supporting the growth of 500 women-led cooperatives and accompanying 1,000 small enterprises in agro-industry, crafts, and trade.
Creating up to 30,000 direct and indirect jobs, with an expected income increase of at least 50 percent for women beneficiaries.
Training 30,000 women and youth in literacy, numeracy, vocational, and green economy skills
This project is directly aligned with Axis 2 of the National Development Plan, focusing on human capital and access to basic social services.
Project 2: Combating Violence Against Women
The second flagship project is dedicated to ending gender-based violence (GBV). It includes initiatives for prevention, protection, and survivor support, while strengthening legal and institutional frameworks. The program will expand safe spaces for women, improve service delivery (healthcare, psychosocial support, and legal assistance), and promote community-based awareness campaigns.
By tackling GBV directly, the project seeks to ensure that women and girls can live in safety and dignity – essential conditions for full participation in the country’s development.

Together, these two major projects form the backbone of Dr. Kirimat’s agenda: to secure women’s rights, empower them economically, and create safe environments where they can thrive. Beyond their social dimension, they are also designed to unlock growth, employment, and human capital, reinforcing the principle that gender equality is a foundation for sustainable development.
As Ambition28 progresses, these flagship initiatives will not only support women but also catalyze economic and social transformation for the Central African Republic as a whole.
